Connect to the future and bonds through submarine cables.

Established in 1906 by Nakanosuke Seki, Seki-Kaiun initially offered marine freight forwarding and diving services on Awaji Island, where our headquarters remain to this day. Evolving into SEKIKAIJI Industry CO., LTD., we have proudly become Japan’s leading specialist in domestic submarine cable installation, including for power transmission. Inheriting the pioneering spirit of our founder, we face each day with resolve, ready to tackle new challenges in a changing era and ocean assignments.

In 1944, we made significant strides by participating in a groundbreaking submarine cable project crossing the Akashi Strait. Recognized for our specialized skills, particularly in laying techniques, our field of activity significantly expanded after World War II. From the mid-1960s, in preparation for major marine construction projects such as the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, which connected Shikoku Island and Honshu Island, we embarked on the modernization and expansion of our vessels and equipment. In 1967, marking our full entry into submarine cable operations, we pioneered the industry with the launch of the “Seki Maru No. 18,” a self-navigating vessel dedicated to cable laying.

To continue being a company that is trusted and needed by society and to receive heartfelt thanks from our customers and people living on remote islands, what I hold dear is the courage to take that step forward. In 2021, we participated in Japan’s first large-scale commercial offshore wind power project in Akita and Noshiro ports. Embracing the pressure of ‘failure is not an option,’ we successfully completed the laying and burying of submarine cables from all 33 wind turbines to land, achieving the project without any accidents or disasters. This challenge allowed us to play a pivotal role in accomplishing a difficult task. Moreover, in 2023, we received news that our construction technology demonstration for establishing and reducing the cost of offshore wind power construction was adopted by the National Research Development Corporation.

SEKIKAIJI Industry has set its management philosophy as “Connect to the future and bonds through submarine cables.” Submarine cables are essential living infrastructure and lifelines that connect our lives. Through submarine cable construction, we connect smiles, dreams, and hope. We connect the bonds between people. With each employee holding a passion, pride, and a sense of mission, and with our principle of “Ensuring everyone returns safely, one by one,” we will continue to innovate and challenge to connect many people’s happiness to the future of Japan.
