Offshore wind power generation is attracting attention worldwide as the momentum for a decarbonized society grows, not only in Japan but also globally. Surrounded by sea on all sides, Japan is said to have a high potential for offshore wind power generation. Starting with the construction of the Akita-Noshiro offshore wind farm in 2021, this movement is expected to accelerate within the country.

Wind turbines are constructed at sea, but submarine cables are used to transmit the electricity generated to land. Submarine cables are essential for the construction of offshore wind power plants. SEKIKAIJI Industry has the personnel and specialized equipment capable of engaging in unique operations, such as cable pulling into turbines, which are rare in Japan, thus contributing to the quality and safety of construction with SEKIKAIJI Industry’s problem-solving capabilities.
Even after the start of power plant operation, SEKIKAIJI Industry contributes with its proposal capabilities to the inspection and maintenance of submarine cables and the restoration in the event of any failure. By fully utilizing the technology we have cultivated so far, we will contribute to society with its submarine capabilities in offshore wind-related submarine cable operations.

Submarine Cable Construction Work
Extensive Defensive Coverage in Submarine Cable Construction

In offshore wind power generation, a site (power station) is typically comprised of multiple wind turbines, all of which are connected to the land via submarine cables. The cables are not laid directly from each wind turbine to the land but are connected from turbine to turbine before being laid to the shore. SEKIKAIJI Industry was the first in the country to introduce special equipment for the submarine cable lying between turbines, with a proven track record in construction. Not only laying but also pulling ashore, protective works, and erection of the wind turbines can be done in one go.

The cables laid on the seabed pass vertically through the wind turbine foundation and are connected to the turbine body. SEKIKAIJI Industry has personnel with specific skills capable of engaging in cable erection to the transition piece (TP) installation for the wind turbine foundation, cable routing, and processing support within the TP. We also have a wide range of equipment specialized for submarine cable-related work inside wind turbines, including compact high-traction winches that can be transported to the TP, lighting/ventilation equipment for confined spaces, and specifications suitable for transporting equipment to high places.

Inspection and Maintenance
For Stable Power Generation

Structures installed under harsh conditions like underwater are not easily inspected because they are not normally visible. However, the impact of a failure in submarine cables can be enormous. SEKIKAIJI Industry can conduct inspections of submarine cables after construction, not only visual records of the location and surrounding conditions but also measuring the burial depth of cables using specialized equipment. If degradation is confirmed, maintenance work such as re-burial can be performed, and in the event of an accident, we are capable of repairing the underwater section.
